ZACHAROVÁ, Mária. Liquidation of private mills in the Trnava District after the Second World War
After World War II, some millers in Trnava District were affected by attempts to cope with the previous regime (confiscation, national management). After 1948, mills in Trnava District were nationalised and by 1952 most of them ceased to serve their purpose. The mills were then used as warehouses, gristmills and others (Unified Agricultural Cooperatives, National Enterprises). Some millers were considered the so-called wealthy villagers or kulaks, and in addition to the loss of their mills, they were affected by other interferences with their rights and freedoms. The condition of the mills was reconsidered in the late 1950s. After 1960, most of the mills were exempted from nationalisation and returned to the personal use of the former owners, who, however, could no longer freely dispose of them. Other mills became part of the assets of the District National Committee in Trnava, the Local National Committee in Slovenská Nová Ves or national enterprises, but this did not contribute to their more efficient use. However, the milling tradition in the Trnava district, which had been interrupted for several decades, was no longer possible to follow.
