MAKYNA, Pavol. Evangelical priest Peter Škodáček in the struggle for freedom
The study deals with the personality of Peter Škodáček. The spiritually rich but materially poor background of his childhood and youth was reflected in the firm moral attitudes. The family of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession and the democratic tradition of the First Czechoslovak Republic significantly influenced his personality. From the moment he became a priest and began to serve as a young pastor in Púchov, results of his work were visible not only in the Evangelical church congregation but in the wider region. These were activities that took place on the territory with the presence of soldiers of Nazi Germany. After the war, he was involved in the Democratic party, which soon became an "unforgivable crime" after the Communist coup d etat, for which he was imprisoned after show trials (1948-1952). Despite the hard fate, which directly affected his wife Anna and daughter Jela, he remained steadfast in his christian faith and civic attitudes until he died in 1983.
