KINČOK, Branislav. Monetary reform 1953 in Slovakia in the documents of the Regional Administrations of the State security
Before the 1970s, a monetary reform took place in communist Czechoslovakia, which not only marked the state's economic profile but also affected the everyday life of its citizens in a dramatic and sometimes tragic way. Although its course was essentially identical throughout Czechoslovakia and the population's reactions were comparable, a few specific features were particularly marked in Slovakia. Among the most significant is considerably lower intensity of expressions of dissatisfaction between the Slovak population, compared to the population in the Czech lands. As Slovak historiography has not yet sufficiently analysed the relevant specifics of the course of the 1953 monetary reform in Slovakia, we will attempt to remedy this deficit based on the archival documents presented. We selected documents from the provenance of six regional State security administrations in Slovakia. These are daily reports, which resemble situational reports in form and content, and depictions of development of events from 29 May to 6 June 1953.
