HLAVIENKA, Lubomír, KOLÁŘ, Ondřej: Activities of Ukrainian Insurgent Army Units in the Nízký Jeseník Region and Surrounding Areas (1947–1948)
The Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), often loosely labelled as "Banderites", has already attracted considerable scholarly and popular attention for its operations on Czechoslovak territory. Yet, in the western stretches of the Czechoslovak–Polish borderlands, the presence and activities of the UPA have received only scant and unsystematic treatment. Although this area was regarded by the insurgents themselves as a secondary corridor, the years 1947 and, above all, 1948 witnessed notable movements of UPA detachments across the Nízký Jeseník region. This article seeks to trace and reconstruct these movements, shedding light on a lesser-known chapter of the post-war borderlands.
