The life of the Hojč couple was marked by turning events of the 20th century. Both entered adulthood in the interwar period. Jozef Hojč underwent difficult trials as a resistance worker, a participant in the Slovak National Uprising and a partisan during World War II. Lila Hojčová faced danger due to her Jewish origin. Their party affiliation helped advance the careers of both spouses. Jozef Hojč became an expert at the head of the only state insurance company. Lila Hojčová held significant positions in women's organisations. The communist regime revered Jozef Hojč by awarding him several high state honours.
